Pickup Recruitment (ピックアップ募集) or universally known as Gacha (ガチャ), is the Gacha system in Blue Archive.
Where Teachers spent their hard-earned Pyroxenes to obtain new Students.
General Information
There are two types of pulling methods: Single pull (120 Pyroxenes), or ten pulls (1200 Pyroxenes).
There are 2 types of animation shown when pulling; If the overall background is:
- Blue
If the background and the stripes of the letter is in blue: it's an indication of no 3★. - Purple
If the background and the stripes of the letter is in purple, then a 3★ is present.
It's possible to receive more than one 3★ in a single 10-pull. There might be a bug, where the animation background is blue, even though a 3★ is pulled. Because of this, it is better to look at the colour of the flash when you open the application; if it flashes purple, then a 3★ is present.
There is also a bug in where you may get a purple flash but a blue envelope, the info above is inconsistent, take it with a grain of salt.
Arc 2 Animation Updates
Starting Arc 2 updates (happens late April 2026 in JP server), animations of the Gacha receives a revamp as well where Plana will appear randomly as well beside Arona. The indicator may appear differently based on appearances as well. These update will only apply after completion of Volume 0 Chapter 1 Episode 0 (Arc 2), which shows the "linkage" popup after the episode.
Any sole appearance of Arona or Plana may come with a blue or purple envelope. However, a special art featuring both Arona and Plana may give a guaranteed Purple envelope, which also leads to a 3★ unit presence.
Recruit Points and Spark System
Recruitment points are given on a 1:1 ratio per pull. (1 pull = 1 recruitment point.)
The recruitment points can be exchanged for the featured Student on the specific banner:
- You need at least 200 recruitment points to exchange. (which is 200 pulls or 24,000 Pyroxenes)
- It expires once the banner ends. (It doesn't get carried over the new banner.)
- Unused recruitment points are converted into crafting materials (https://schaledb.com/item/1) upon expiration.
Divine Fragments
Divine Fragment and Student Fragment are given for every duplicate pull. The amount given varies by rarity. In addition, rate-up characters receive more student fragments.

Regular Recruitment
The Regular Recruitment is always available. All non-limited Students (except launch and first years, which are now belong to Archive Recruitment below) are featured and can be pulled here.
Tutorial Recruitment
Tutorial Recruitment (known as Precision Recruitment in Global) is a type of Regular Recruitment available by default for new players starting the game. As this would be the first pull attempt by new players, it costs no Pyroxenes at all, but the students you can get from this recruitment are only students that are available from the start of the game's service.
Tutorial Recruitment uses Selector type of recruitment, where teachers may make maximum 10 attempts of 10-pull gacha before picking any of the best pulls to be saved in the game. 1 3★ student is guaranteed to appear in Tutorial Recruitment.

Pickup Recruitment
The Pickup Recruitment increases the rate temporarily of the featured Student.
Limited Pickup Recruitment
Students that are featured as Limited:
- Can be temporarily recruited from Regular Recruitment, if their banner is live.
- Cannot be recruited on Regular Recruitment
- Cannot be recruited by using Elephs, even if their banner is live.
Fest Recruitment
Students that are featured as Limited during special anniversary recruitment events. The conditions for these students are similar to Limited Pickup Recruitment. However, any students that was offered in any Fest Recruitment before can be recruited again in any other Fest recruitment, but they do not enjoy the same rate up like pick-up Fest Recruitment students any other non-limited students, which also enjoys higher rate up during the recruitment. Non-pick up Fest students is also not selectable via Recruitment Points exchanges.

Legacy Recruitments
Some legacy-type recruitment has been established around the 5th year of the game to accommodate the growth of the gacha pool. Older units are now being removed from the current regular pool and replaced in their own special pool, which allow people to get the older units easier without going through the newer unit banners and vice versa.
Archive Recruitment
Introduced around the 4.5th year of the game, it separates non-limited characters available from launch and the first year of the game into a special pool, where Sensei is able to wishlist any units they liked to be rolled in the gacha, increasing likelihood of getting the selected students. A special (green) ticket is needed to roll for the students involved.
Per this implementation, the involved units ceased to be available in the current regular pool.

Special Recruitments
There are also special recruitments that offers features such as 3-star guaranteed, recruitments only for students in a certain schools, allows selective requirements and so on. These are recruitment section that is offered only for Guaranteed Recruitment Ticket owners, which are offered as a paid consumable in-game.
Pickup Recruitment reruns
Usually, after a character received their own recruitment banners, the banner will be put up for rerun around a year after their original run. However there exist special cases where a banner might not receive their banners exactly on the normal cycles like others, like:
- Collaboration characters like Hatsune Miku never received their own rerun. While it is confirmed that those from Railgun series may receive a rerun, currently no reruns have been happening after their original run.
- Off-event banners that involves early playable characters are subjected to random scheduled reruns, including Limited characters. Banners with events already achieved Recap status are subjected to the same condition.
- Fest Recruitment banners will receive their banner reruns around 1 and a half year after their first run or after 3 Fest recruitment period.
- With the introduction of legacy Recruitment banners, older units will not have any more reruns. However as limited legacy banners are also subjected to a limited period, rerun of such banner may occur in the future.
Event-based banners from the events original run and rerun will also receive another rerun when the event reached the first week of immortalisation in Event Recap. However, their next run may also subjected to random scheduling in the game.
Special Features
Recruitment Ticket
Other than pyroxenes, there are also special tickets only used for student recruitment purposes. It is commonly divided into 1x Recruitment Ticket and 10x Recruitment Ticket which are usually either distributed during events and occasions.
1x Recruitment Ticket allows players to only recruit 1 players at a time, while 10x Recruitment Ticket allows players to recruit only 10 students at a time. Any 1x Recruitment Tickets cannot be exchanged to 10x tickets and vice versa , however they can be used as a 10-pull by using 10 tickets (updates as of July 2025 in JP, may be reflected later in GL/CN).
Each recruitment tickets does not bear any expiry date except any tickets obtained as a Great Decisive Battle (Grand Assault) reward, which has a roughly 30-days usage limit (or more, depending on the update cycle of the game).
Guaranteed Recruitment Tickets
Special types of recruitment ticket are offered as an in-game purchase, which offers benefits such as 3-star guaranteed recruitment in a 10x pulls. These tickets are used only in their special recruitment segments.
These tickets are deemed valid for use as long as their campaign are ongoing.
Free Pulls
Free pulls is a special feature offered in some recruitment events of the game, where the game distributed a certain amount of pulls to players for a certain period. Rather than any consumables like tickets or pyroxenes it is present in points, and can be used either in 10x pulls or 1x pull methods.
However, these pulls are usually limited to any recruitment banners associated in a certain period, and will expire when a new banner period comes, which means the points cannot be carried forward.
Trivia
- On April 23rd, 2021, the official BA Twitter announced that the Recruit Points needed will be reduced from 300 to 200 starting on the next banner and onwards.
- The Global Server debuts with 200 Recruit Points.
- Some groups of students are not available to be recruited from any types of banner available in the game and their elephs is not obtainable here too.
- Welfare characters can be only obtained by completing their respective event stories (Episode 1 for normal runs, last episode for immortalized events). Their elephs can only be obtained either via event-specific activities or Eligma Shop.
- Izayoi Nonomi can only be obtained from the New Teacher Guide daily mission. Her eleph also is only exclusively obtained from the guide mission, the Eligma Shop and the Expert Permit Shop only.
- The recruitment points for Archive Recruitment are set to expire on December 31st, 2099. This means that Archive recruitment points are effectively non-expiring, unlike regular recruitment points that expire at the end of a recruitment banner.
- Tutorial Recruitment works like normal recruitments before it is changed to Selector-type recruitment in 2023 for both Global and JP, to adjust to the new method adopted in CN version to overcome their account ownership limitation that blocks teachers from rerolling.
- 2-star units introduced after launch will often share banners with another 3-star units (examples are Kirino with Shun (Small), Momiji with Meru, or Renge with Yukari and Kikyou in their swimsuit variants). However, they will not be present as a recruitable units in Recruitment Points exchange due to their high probability.
- Not every character that is introduced as 3-star units at launch get featured as a pick-up character. As of July 2025 (where all of them are now separated into Archive Recruitment), Neru and Izumi never have their own pick-up banners.
- A revamp of gacha features happened on Arc 2 update (April 2026 in JP) which saw these changes:
- UI revamp, banner menu is now vertical instead of horizontal.
- Addition of new animations featuring Arona and Plana
- Arona skin appearance is now more white.
- These animation is also interactive as you can headpat them during the process.
- Theme change from Connecting Sky to Theme 338 (remix of Connecting Sky)
